DeMoure, Heaton, Lead Royals to Massive Win Over Real Overland Park

Woodland FC traveled to Blue Valley Northwest High School to take on Real Overland Park in a hotly contested match that had high stakes riding on it for both teams.

Woodland FC (9-0-1 27pts at kickoff) were eager to return the favor to Real Overland Park (5-0-3 15pts at kickoff) who were responsible for handing the Royals their sole loss of the season back in week 3. That match went 7-4 in favor of Overland Park. Much like the week 3 match, Woodland were missing key players in this match as well. Chandler Givler, Brennan Williams, Spencer Bone, Erik Calderon, Héliot Garcia, Max Torres, Joseph Caughron, and Dawud Radwan were all unable to play due to excused absences.

The match began with a flourish as the Royals were able to create wave after wave of chances. Michael Okiring managed to create two chances against the keeper, the first being cleared off the line, the 2nd being smartly saved by the Overland Park keeper.

Woodland was content to control possession, play short, and switched quickly into a higher gear when the Overland Park line crept up too far. This would be a theme throughout the match.

After forcing a turnover from a high press, Woodland was able to swing the ball out to Jordan Flores who played an excellent through-ball to Spence Jean-Baptiste down the left flank of the Royals. Jean-Baptiste dribbled around his defender, and delivered a swift low cross through the 6-yard box where DeMoure was ready to tap in from close range.

The Royals turned on some style for the 2nd goal. Bellerice won the ball after excellent work in midfield. The Royals knocked the ball around their defense to keep possession, one side of the field to the other, before Carson found an excellent alley to slide a pass through to DeMoure. DeMoure raced past the line, having beaten the offside trap, and shot it low past the on-rushing keeper to double the Royals' lead.

Moments after a promising Overland Park attack, Woodland would break their backs with a goal they have not had much of throughout this season. Nassir played the goal kick shortly to Pemberton. Pemberton surveyed the field and played a long ball over the top of the Overland Park defense. Luke Heaton outmuscled the Real defenders, and outraced two of them before calmly slotting home past the keeper. Royals lead 3-0.

Overland Park would respond with an excellent individual goal made by winger Moses Daung, who found space and time off a turnover while Woodland was off set in their formation.

The goal would prove to be too little too late as the match would end 3-1 in Woodland's favor. The Royals climb to a record of 10-0-1 (30pts), while Real Overland Park fell to a record of 5-0-4 (15pts). The Royals now are off until Monday, July 8th, when they will travel to Franke Field in Lee's Summit Missouri to take on Lee's Summit Athletic at 6pm.
